Drug detox and alcohol detox programs in New Jersey come in many different shapes and sizes but there are a couple of things that they all have in common.
First, a well-run program starts with a careful physical and mental assessment of each patient. This will help define the true nature of the addiction, along with any co-occurring illnesses that are impacting the addiction. This will then result in a recommended treatment program that specifically meets the needs of each individual patient.
The second common element is the use of medication-assisted treatments. Patients often need the help of these medications to get through the withdrawal process so they can stay well and focused on other treatments. The medications most commonly used include, Suboxone, generically listed as buprenorphine, Subutex, also listed as buprenorphine, and Vivitrol, generically listed as naltrexone, and that is also part of the buprenorphine family. They also use Methadone, which is the most well-known among these drugs.
Finally, every one of these programs offer some form of counselling that helps patient break away from addiction and helps them learn new coping strategies that keep them away from a relapse.
First, it is important to understand what aftercare is and why it plays such an important role in the addiction recovery process. A detox program for either drugs or alcohol, along with an accompanying rehab program, isn’t done when a patient is released. In fact, some would argue that the program is now entering the testing phase, where the lessons learned in rehab will have to be applied in the real world.
Aftercare is a set of tools that help patients transition back into society and help them put what they have learned into practice.
It can start with transitional housing, as the first transitional step. Sometimes called halfway houses, or sober living centers, these are temporary living arrangements that help a patient ease back into their lives. This is normally accompanied by access to a support group or peers that a recovering addict can lean on. These peers or support buddies, as they are sometimes called, stand ready to intervene anytime a patient feels like they are being pulled back into addiction.
This aftercare can continue for as long as necessary and as an addict’s recovery becomes increasingly stronger, they can even become part of an aftercare team for those that follow.
New Jersey has a wide range of price points for drug detox and alcohol detox programs as you work your way from north to south and east to west. The least costly programs seem to be based in the southern half of New Jersey where prices are a bit less than the national average. The central and northern communities in this state tend to come in well above the national average.
Costs begin with the medications that are being prescribed and these costs are fairly consistent across the state. The start at about $30 per month and climb to just a bit less than $700 per month. These costs typically include some amount of counselling as well, so on an outpatient basis, this is also the total cost for an alcohol detox or drug detox program.
Inpatient treatment is where the real variations come into focus. In-patient care adds room and board, along with a wide range of amenities and a greater level of medical care. Costs vary from a low of about $120 per day, to more than $3,000 per day. These prices often reflect the level of privacy each care center offers, along with the level of luxury patients will enjoy.
In any case, costs can often be offset by health insurance plans that can cover as mush as 90% of these programs. For those on Medicare, they also offer coverage. The key to both though is to find a drug detox or alcohol detox program that is accredited.
When addition is treated early, before significant damage is done, an outpatient detox program is often all that’s needed to deliver a lasting cure. However, when a person has been using heavily over and extended period of time, or have tried and failed in the past to get clean, an inpatient setting is a must.
Also, when there is a lack of support from friends and family or the surrounding the patient lives in presents continuing pressure to use, inpatient programs deliver better results.
The initial assessment should have offered a clear recommendation and this is one that should absolutely be followed.
